Sheathing Nozzles, Wire and Cable Guides

Sheathing nozzles bring conductor and polymer melt together with precision when cables are jacketed — during extrusion of the insulation or sheathing compound. Wire and cable guides lead the running product through the line with minimum wear. Fritz Leng manufactures both to the customer's drawing: in tungsten carbide or a wide range of ceramic grades, polished or unpolished.

Where are sheathing nozzles used?

Sheathing nozzles are used throughout the cable industry: wherever conductors, strands or ropes receive a polymer jacket. The nozzle sits in the crosshead of the extrusion line; its geometry and surface finish determine how evenly the jacket is applied. Each nozzle is custom-made in carbide or ceramic — matched to line, product and throughput.

What do wire and cable guides do?

We supply wire and cable guides in tungsten carbide and in various ceramic grades, polished or unpolished, made to the customer's drawing. Their task is to guide the running product — wire, insulated core or finished cable — precisely and with minimum wear. Because a guide is permanently in contact with the product, material choice and surface finish decide tool life and product protection; worn guides leave marks on the product surface.

Why custom-made to your drawing?

Crossheads and guiding systems differ from line to line — there is no universal geometry. We therefore manufacture to your drawing (PDF, DXF or STEP) or design the geometry together with you. Grinding, polishing and measuring stay in-house at Herborn-Schönbach; bores from 0.2 to 150 mm, inspection report on request, delivery within 24 hours when necessary.

Carbide or ceramic — which is the right choice?

Both materials are standard at Leng. The choice depends on the application: load, product material and line conditions. We advise during design and supply both — including different ceramic grades.

Polished or unpolished — when does which make sense?

The point of use decides: where the nozzle or guide surface directly touches and must protect the product, the polished version is the rule. We supply both versions to your drawing and match the finish to your process.

Does Leng make replacements for existing tools from other manufacturers?

We manufacture to your drawing — including replacements for existing tooling. If no drawing exists, talk to us: with your application data, the geometry can be captured and designed in our 3D CAD office.
