Drawing Tools Made of Carbide, Steel and Ceramic

Fritz Leng Hartmetall Ziehwerkzeuge has manufactured drawing tools since 1948: tungsten carbide wire drawing dies, drawing dies for bars and tubes, carbide mandrels, shaving and scalping dies, compacting dies, sheathing nozzles and custom carbide tooling, all made to order in Herborn-Schönbach, Germany. Bore diameters range from 0.2 to 150 mm. We also recondition worn dies and stock polishing and inspection accessories.

Which drawing tools does Leng manufacture?

We manufacture and supply drawing tools made of steel, tungsten carbide and ceramic for the wire, tube and bar industry, plus custom tooling in hard materials made to customer drawings. Every tool is made to order: designed for your material, ground in-house, hand-polished. Measuring reports are supplied on request.

Tungsten carbide wire drawing dies

Wire drawing dies (German: Ziehsteine) reduce wire and other strand-shaped material to the target diameter. We design entrance, drawing angle and bearing length with our own calculation software, matched to your material and reduction. Available in various carbide grades, with hard-material coatings, or as ceramic dies.

Carbide drawing dies for bars and tubes

For bar and tube production we manufacture drawing dies in all common nib and casing dimensions, with casing diameters up to 450 mm. Drawing schedules and die geometry are calculated with our own software.

Carbide mandrels

We manufacture fixed mandrels (plugs) for chain-type draw benches, covering tube diameters from 2.5 to 200 mm, and floating mandrels for continuous drawing on drum-type draw benches. Mandrel geometry is calculated with dedicated software; coatings are available.

Shaving and scalping dies

Shaving and scalping dies remove scale and drawing defects from rolled and cast wire by machining with a geometrically defined cutting edge. Most are made to customer drawings; coatings extend tool life.

Custom carbide tooling

We manufacture custom tooling to your drawing: as a carbide blank or ready-to-install finished part, also in hardened steel or ceramic, to tight tolerances.

Die reconditioning

Regrinding worn carbide drawing dies is one of our particular strengths. We regrind and repolish to the next available size, so you get a like-new tool at considerably lower cost than a new one.
